When you own a Limoges
box,
you own a
piece of history Limoges porcelain has
been made in Limoges, France since the later part of the
18th century. It was during this period that kaolin, the
pure white clay vital in the production of hard paste
porcelain, was discovered in nearby St. Yriex. Before the
discovery of this substance in Europe, it was only China
that produced hard paste porcelain.

The Limoges boxes were originally used as snuff boxes,
bonbonnieres, scent flacons, cane heads and small carrying
cases. In present times, Limoges boxes are beautiful,
decorative and, often, useful pieces. All of the Limoges
boxes carried at The Prince's Table, are made in the city of
Limoges and all are produced from Limoges kaolin. Our
Limoges boxes are made by highly skilled artisans who train
for many years before their work is considered fine enough
for production. The artisans have perfected making the mold,
the painting of each box, the crafting of the metal fittings
and finally, securing the hinges to each box. This is
obviously a tedious and difficult process but the fabulous
end-product makes all the hard work worth it. A Limoges box
is a piece of beauty, an item destined to become an
heirloom. If there is a particular style, design or theme of
a box you would like to see but cannot find it on our
website, please email
us and we will do our best to find it for you.
